Kin Coffee is a roastery based in Staplehurst, Kent, founded by Greg and Kate after relocating from London during the pandemic. The business started in a converted garden potting shed and grew through farmers markets before adding online sales and a wholesale arm supplying local cafes.
In 2023 they opened a coffee shop in Staplehurst serving espresso and filter alongside food from local producers. Kin has a clear house focus on naturally processed coffees, particularly from Latin America, which the founders link to both flavour preference and lower environmental impact compared to washed processing.
One of their long-standing suppliers is a family-run farm in Brazil, Fazenda Bom Jesus, which the founders have visited. They source additional green beans through Falcon Specialty in Lewes.
The roastery was the first in the UK to package freshly roasted coffee in glass jars fitted with a specialised degassing valve, a move that earned them a feature in The Times as a response to the near-universal non-recyclability of standard coffee bags. Packaging is also offered in home compostable pouches.
