Founded in 1819 in the market town of Kendal, Farrers is one of the oldest continuously trading coffee roasters in the UK. For more than two centuries it has roasted from the same Lake District base, and some of its best-known house blends are descended from original recipes that have been refined across generations rather than replaced.
That continuity is unusual in a category where most businesses are less than 20 years old. Today the roastery operates from Kendal and supplies independent cafés, hotels, restaurants and farm shops across the UK as well as selling direct.
Beyond coffee, Farrers runs accredited barista training and offers roastery experience days where visitors can tour the historic works and blend their own coffee to take home. Mountain Water Process decaf is offered alongside the main range.
The business also sells tea, maintaining its original identity as a tea and coffee merchant.
