Cartwheel Coffee Roasters is based in Sneinton, Nottingham, with a second site in Beeston. The business was founded by Alex, who opened his first city centre café with an attached roastery alongside his wife Becci, deliberately combining high-quality food and coffee under one roof at a time when that combination was uncommon in the city.

The roastery sources from individual farmers and washing stations rather than through commodity channels, guided by flavour over price. The focus is on preserving what makes each lot distinct rather than smoothing it into a house profile, which puts it at odds with the homogenised, dark-roasted style found in most mainstream coffee.

Cartwheel supplies wholesale and runs barista workshops, and its direct trade sourcing spans Ethiopia, El Salvador, Rwanda, Uganda, Colombia, Peru, Brazil and Timor-Leste.
