Paul Equi's great-grandmother started roasting coffee in Tuscany to her own flavour profiles for the hotel and cafe she ran in the Apennine mountains. Her son Alfie, Paul's grandfather, carried those profiles to Scotland.

Paul launched Alfie & Co in Killearn, Stirlingshire in 2014, naming the business after his grandfather who taught him the craft. Some of the roast profiles in their current range have been in continuous production for over 50 years.

The roastery and cafe sits inside Oakwood Garden Centre and is open Wednesday to Sunday. They sell online, supply wholesale, and run a subscription.

Training and equipment are also available. The roast style skews dark, in keeping with the traditional approach they are consciously preserving.
